This is not directly related to Erasing, It is Directly related Identifying the DVD disk. This will make it a little easier in the future.

Well... it's because a DVD+R disk is not necessarily a RW disk.

They do make DVD+RW but they are usually labeled as such and not labled as "DVD+R RW".

Are you sure the disk is an RW disk?

If it is, then you drive may not recognize +R or +RW disks.
