Faith is the belief without reason. Why would you believe in something without a reason to. It seems odd to me. Please explain. Hopefully I will get an answer that satisfies my reason.

Its all a Matter of Definition of Assumptions
Some define Faith as "belief without Reason", and Others appear to define Faith as "The evidence of things to come", so if there is a disagreement on a key Assumption, then the "Argument" ( By this I mean, "Line of Reasoning") is run at cross-purposes.
I think that there are about 3-4 Assumptions, with possibly some minor assumptions, that lead to the Conclusion "God Exists". Well, if you disagree with any of the Assumptions, it is perfectly reasonable to say you think it is not Correct, since a Conclusion can be False, but still Logical, but if a Believer can show a series of Syllogistic forms in the line of thought, then its perfectly logical. The only problem would be is if you agree with the Assumptions, then say the conclusion is incorrect.... So Many Possibilities :-)

You spend your entire life using faith. You have faith that the light will come on when you flip the switch. You have faith that the chair will hold you up when you sit in it. You have faith that you'll be able to take your next breath. Faith isn't entirely without reason. As a Christian, I believe that God exists because He's made Himself real to me. I look at the Earth and I see the irreducible complexity of design that demands a Designer. When the COBE (Cosmic backbround explorer) Satellite and the Hubble space telescope both point to an expanding universe, I can look back and envision the universe's point of origin. And which takes less faith, believing that God was behind that origin, or believing that the universe somehow "condensed" out of nothing? My faith is based on a reasonable interpretation of what I see in Creation, and what I've experienced in my life. God not only exists, He is interested in the welfare of His creation.

First of all "logic" or "reason " is more or less relative. What makes sense to me completely confounds my dog. To her going back around the tree ten times the other way to get untangled is stupidity. But, it works! Here you see that logic in itself is not exactly 100% reliable.

Secondly, nobody believes in something that doesn't make sense to him. That's insanity. You are incorrect that faith is against reason. Whoever told you this has misrepresented the entire meaning of the word. No one can prove God's existance or non-existance, so first you sit down and think about it. If it makes sense to you , you add a little faith and say I believe it. If it doesn't make sense to you, you add a little faith and say I don't believe it. Faith isn't a religious term. It's a term regarding things unprovable by science. Agnostics are the only people who truely have no faith. An atheist can not prove God's non-existance so he too has faith in his "reasonable conclusion".

Thirdly, most people throughout time have overwhelmingly thought that a god existed. So, obviously this vast majority of people thought that it was reasonable or they wouldn't have believed it. I think with something like this, you can say majority rules. The human mind is a machine, and most of these machines working today come up with a certain result. So , by definition, the result is "resonable".

If to you it is unreasonable to think that God exists, that's your conclusion. You are in the minority. I am not saying that that makes you wrong since reason itself is fallable.( A dog that thought it reasonable to go around the tree would be in the minority but correct.)

My conclution is that human reasonableness is defined by the human majority. It's not a failproof indicator of correctness, but it is in favor of the existance of God

One more thing. Some religions say to follow your heart. This is a load of crap.Think about some of the things your heart has told you to do.That's not a good idea at all. The nice thing about God, as long as i'm right! is that he gives you something bigger and more reliable than a gut feeling or reasonableness to follow. God's word makes sense. In spite of all the crap you hear about it, it really adds up . So many people talk about all the problems with the Bible but when you do your homework on it, it's an amazing feat of accomplishment no group of people could come up with. Anyway , I'll shut, but good luck man, God loves you. Look for Him!

Many otherwise reasonable people suspend their logic when it comes to believing in God. Why do they do this? I don't really know. Perhaps the pressure of great existential questions is just too great for some people to suspend judgment and they want an answer, even if there's no proof for it. In short, I think most people believe in God just because they want there to be a God.

What is your reason for not beleiving in GOD? You say you don't have a reason to believe, do you have a reason not to? Can you have faith that GOD doesn't exist?

The beauty is that GOD gave us free will, we get to choose!!! What is the alternative to GOD, NO GOD? you can live either way, just make sure that before you give up on the idea of GOD that your not confusing GOD with religion. THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS!!!!! GOD is the energy of love and compassion and light, GOD is the best part of you, the best part of us all, his spirit is inside you all the time waiting for you to discover the wonders of him and of yourself and of the world. I would suggest learning more about him. I would do some research into it, there are many belief systems and ways of connecting. There is no right answer, there is not only 1 way, any path to him is a good one. I would not suggest Church or religion at first. For some reason, they insist on making GOD scary. It can be very confusing, and for someone who is not sure, it would definitely send you running the other way. If the thought of judgement and hell and sin and righteousness doesn't make sense to you I would suggest looking at other teachers, other ways, Dr. Wayne Dyer is a wonderful author who speaks of our SOURCE with such truth for me, maybe he would resound with you to. Don't give up on your search for him, and please do not think that religion and church is the only way to GOD, that is the biggest lie there is. Find out for yourself, think for yourself, if it doesn't sound right to you, then it is not right, trust your own instincts and rememeber that Judgement, Righteousness are ways of man, not of GOD and to steer clear of anyone telling you that there is only one way, one truth, one answer. God speaks to us through our hearts, you will know in your heart when you have made the connection that is right for you.

Love and Light,
Mamalissa

You state that faith is belief without reason. If that's your opinion, fine. I don't agree. God said in His word, "come let us reason together". My faith is not blind, it is exactly what you claim does not exist: a reasoned faith.

Before I began studying the bible in earnest, I did not believe it was inspired by God. I have now been studying it for ten years. My relationship with God and His son grows every day in depth, joy and meaning. The bible, I believe, is what it claims to be, given by inspiration of God. No one can "prove" to you it's true...no person that is. God says "come to me, and I will show you great and mighty things you know not". God never says anything idly. If you wish to know all these incredible things that He has done and promised, go to Him, He will reveal His truth to you, if you seek Him with your whole heart.

"Faith comes from hearing, and by hearing the word of God" Romans 10:17.
Jesus Christ IS the reason! His wonderful gospel of salvation IS the reason WE BELIEVE!
And it is wonderful power of the Holy Spirit who is changing lives today.
1 Corinthians 1:18
[ Christ the Wisdom and Power of God ] For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

To get an answer that satisfies your reason you would have to earnestly ask Father God and I believe that most atheist here are much to frightened to risk getting an answer from Almighty God.

Anything without reason is by definition delusion. Blind faith is delusion. Religious faith is delusion. god does not exist and no reasonable person can possibly believe such nonsense!

No. Faith is belief independent of reason. The fact that your beliefs are reasonable does not diminish your faith.
