Hello,
I am trying to find out what steps I ( a Stepfather) need to take to adpot my stepdaught.... I am the only Dad she has ever know... Me and my wife have talked about this for years and want to make that step...why we didnot do it sooner is I have no clue. The orginal father has no paid child support for years and we have not heard from him. See is 8 now and calls me Dad... I live in Arizona so any help would be helpful.

Go to the state's website and see if you have a Family & Social Svcs division in your area. Or you can contact an attorney and they can point you in the right direction for stepparent adoption. Congrats Daddy!

First you need to get his parental rights terminated either voluntarily or ordered by a judge. After his rights are terminated, then you can just hire an attorney (adoption attorney) and file some papers and your done! Congrats. You might even just ask that his rights be terminated by reason of abondonment. I know in this state it's 6 months and no contact = abandonment!

go strait to the court and tell them you want to adopt your step child, get a law er have him draw up papers for the real dad asking him to give up his rights,then if he does , go though the whole court proceedings.
