I just got a kitten for my birthday. I'm aware chocolate is really bad for dogs, so what do I avoid giving to my cat? Is anything particularily dangerous or poisonous that they should not consume?

Its safest just to stick to cat food - if you want to treat your pet, use only treats designed for cats.

Chocolate is certainly dangerous to most animals, including cats and dogs, it can in fact be poisonous. Cow's Milk, although traditionally given, can in fact give cats diarrhoea as they are lactose intolerant.

Here is a link to a fairly good article detailing some of the foods it is especially important to avoid:

Hope this helps,

In my own personal experience, milk and any table scraps will give a cat diarrhea. So just give it regular cat food. Nothing else (except water, of course). I would also take it to the vet for its first shots and to be generally checked out. The vet can recommend a cat food for you.

No chocolate for cats, either. Chicken or fish with bones in it. And, watch the cat food (usually dry variety) for ash content levels. Many urinary tract problems with cats are tied to this and can and does lead to the death of an affected cat. The vet explained to us that is is mostly with the generic store brand variety of cat foods but is not limited to that. Many name brands are high in content as well and therefore actually harmful, or potentially so, to your beloved feline companion.

Chocolate is bad for cats to. You shouldn't give them real milk. Check any plants before you bring them home, a lot are toxic.

Not that you should feed these to them anyway, but onions are toxic to cats. Their digestive system doesn't know how to process them and it could kill them. Just a heads up so you don't leave them on a table or counter unsupervised..

choc for cat no good either. It is not that they know it, either. But basically both can eat the same things. small chicken and fish bones are not really that good for them either.
