In the UK, it was referred to as the Roman Conquest, Anglo Saxon Conquest, the Viking Invasions and the Norman Conquest.
In other countries of the world there was a series of Empires colonising most of the earth: the British Empire, the French Empire, the German Empire, the Spanish Empire, the Portuguese Empire and the Dutch Empire. Belgian too had some colonies, although I'm not sure whether they used the term Empire. Even Italy had a colony in Eritrea.
When it's done to us, it's a conquest; when we do it to other people, it seems to be an empire, which makes it all sound morally justifiable.
But the point about all these occurrences is that the uninvited foreigners came as a cohesive force and with a plan of action. They had a constructive influence. I'm not so sure about present day invaders.....

No such thing as an "Illegal Immigrant", they are properly classified as "Illegal Aliens". I just call them what they are, CRIMINAL INVADERS.

Want the history? Just look at how well it worked out for the Roman Empire - He who refuses to learn from the past is condemned to repeat it.

"Barbarian" is a pejorative term for an uncivilized, uncultured person, either in a general reference to a member of a nation or ethnos perceived as having an inferior level of civilization, or in an individual reference to a brutal, cruel, insensitive person whose behaviour is unacceptable in the purportedly civilized society of the speaker.

Romans called them 'barbari', the Greeks called them 'barbaroi' or 'xenoi'.
