I know that some Christians (I said some, not all) believe that Atheists are evil, without morals, don't know right from wrong, are depressed...the list goes on and on.
My question to you is, why do you think these things? Is it because you know numerous Atheists that are these things that you believe of us, or is it just your misconception of something you don't understand? Or is it that you believe all these things of all people that don't believe in your god and Atheists are just the easiest to target?

I suppose I could turn that around and ask you why some atheists think that us Christians are evil, hypocritical, nasty, etc. Is it your misconception of something you don't understand?

The real answer is probably because people love to generalize about other groups, no matter which side of any given issue that they're on. Those who think in terms of absolutes also tend to see anyone who disagrees with them as being the "enemy."

There are plenty of misconceptions about both Christians and atheists floating around out there. That's why a place like the R&S forum *could* be a way to bridge the gap of understanding between us, if people used it for the information-gathering purpose for which it was intended.

It's sad, but many people apparently prefer to stick to their own preconceived ideas about the other group, rather than make friends and learn more about what the other guy believes.

I, being a born-again Christian, do not believe all Atheists are "bad people".

I personally knew an Atheist--I dated his daughter--when I was in college. He was a fine man--very wise--very moral--very ethical--upstanding member of the community. He and I "agreed to disagree"--we were great friends, and I respected him tremendously, as he did the same for me. And I was saddened when I learned of his passing--not because he was an "atheist"; but because I had lost a "friend".

I am a Christian and I don't think these things about atheists.

I think there are many misconceptions on both sides and a good deal of disrespect projected both ways.

However; it has been my observation that atheist's tend to be slightly more sarcastic and demeaning.

Hammurabi is known for the set of laws called Hammurabi's Code, one of the first written codes of law in recorded history. Owing to his reputation in modern times as an ancient law-giver, Hammurabi's portrait is in many government buildings throughout the world.

Hammurabi was the sixth king of Babylon. (1810 BCE - 1750 BCE)

the code of Hammurabi pre-dates the 10 commandements not to mention that the Babylonians are considered to be the most evil people in the bible.

It allows them to avoid the question of why people are atheists.

I don't see them as evil, I just see them as misguided people.
