My one yr old twins have until now been fantastic sleepers but all of a sudden they have started crying hysterically for up to four hours at night. They basically fall asleep when they have exhausted themselves. Once asleep they go for about twelve hours and other than this they are happy, even tempered little girls. Im finding it so hard and distressing has anyone any advice or tips?

You may already do this, my Mom told me over and over and when I finally listened to her she was right.
She told me to make sure I have a routine. We do the same thing at the same time every night. Come home, eat dinner, go for a walk, take a bath, get ready for bed, brush teeth, go to sleep. (I have a 2yr old) It's really hard because I work, but he LOVES the schedule and now he even keeps me on it!

On weekends it gets a little haywire and we don't always follow through, but it makes a difference during the week.

I really feel for you though, I can't imagine having two toddlers! Hang in there! :o)

I also had the same problem with my twin boys, then i discovered that they just wanted to be by eachother, and if they are identical that may be the case because usually they are very close, they are 2 now and they each have their own bed and as soon as i close their bedroom door one of them always goes to the others bed and they go right to sleep.

I have always believed in the letting them fuss rule - but I see you are already doing that.... Have you tried a schedule - like bath, then story, then bed. Also dimming lights helped with my son also. And I know this is horrible and many will scream when they see it but I send all of mine to bed with a drink. My oldest two are 8 and 3 and NEITHER of them have rotten teeth BUT they sleep all nite.

I would call the Doctor. When my kids stop sleeping on their usual schedule, usually they have an ear infection. Also, if they are healthy, the doctor might have some advice.
