you mean the "teleconverter" adaptor lens you can buy for video cameras to extend the telephoto range? 1.4 is the best bet. larger powers add too much weight and make the camera difficult to balance and hold steady.
Also the higher powers do not zoom at all so it becomes nearly impossible to find the subject in a hurry, bad for action and animal shots.

I have 12x zoom on my camera - it is wonderful for landscape and nature photography - I just love it! It is a Canon PowerShot S2 IS
