They will eat grain{ you can buy a Pigeon/Dove mixture }, mine liked broccoli but I had to cut the tops into small bits, try cooked corn bread, don't feed oatmeal, when in the stomach it swells with fluid in the stomach. They prefer to eat from the floor, I used small pie pans, and keep him warm and out of drafts. It might help to cover the cage at night,

Doves eat a variety of foods such as seed (you can offer it any type of seed that is labeled for canaries or finches), fresh fruits and veggies, and occassionally bugs such as worms. Do you have the broken wing splinted to keep it from moving? I wouldn't recommend taking the bird halfway around the state to cure it. Birds get stressed very easily, and a drive like that could easily kill it.

thats good that you are trying to take care of it.....i just love people like you......if you know what you are doing just look up on the net to see what they eat and see if it will eat and if not (it prolly wont) then take him to a vet. I once saved a baby (new out of the egg) starling and i still have him now ...he is 2 yrs old and he talks up a storm....I did try to let him go but he always comes back...so i still have him and love him dearly

with birds out in the wild its hard to know what their main app is but seeing your a animal caring person i dint think you would like digging up worms slugs for it CZ they still living things, but keep the bird sheltered and go to a fish shop maybe to buy a box of worms they would breed them so you don't have to go looking in the garden. make sure the dove is in a safe place like no bigger animal is to eat it while its fragile.
good luck
