i need to cash a 401 k refund check no banks in my area will cash it without a checking account i'm in the saratoga ny area can anybody help please

Take it to a branch of the bank it's drawn on. You could go to a check casher but they'll clobber you with fees.

You really should get a bank account if you don't have one,though.

I completely agree with bostonianinmo. The bank the check is drawn one may charge a fee for non-customers as well. But, it will be less than a check cashing service. Why not use the refund to OPEN an account?

do you mean a 401 k rollover? you need a broker for that
