I got a windows Vista and tried to turn it into XP, it kinda worked. But for some reason the screen was shaking when I dragged stuff, and it didn't recognize my dial up modem. I partion the hard drive before I did this, and now it's back to being Vista. My friends said I messed something up and the computer don't recognize anything, something about a driver. How should I turn vista into Xp without any of these problems?

You should do a completely fresh install of windows XP.

Boot to the XP cd and make sure you format the drive before you install windows XP.

This way, there is no data left over from the Vista installation which in turn means no more problems.

Keep in mind that this will delete all the information off the computer. So make sure you back up anything that is important.

You can perform a clean installation of Windows Vista on a hard disk partition that contains an existing Microsoft Windows installation. If you do not format the hard disk, all the following items will be saved automatically in the Windows.OLD folder after Windows Vista is installed:
• The previous operating system
• User data
• Program files
To confirm that these items have been saved, make sure that the Windows.OLD folder exists in the root folder of the Windows hard disk. Typically, the Windows hard disk is the C drive. If the Windows.OLD folder exists on this drive, files from the previous Windows installation are saved during the Windows Vista installation process. Therefore, you can restore the computer to the previous Windows installation.
