Two is a good age. Both of my kids were about 2 when we moved them. Really whenever they start climbing out of their crib you should move them even if they are younger than 2. But be prepared, lots of kids have trouble when they first go to their "big" bed because they can get out of it whenever they want. If you want to go with a toddler bed, then you can use the crib mattress, but you don't have too. You can go right to a twin bed. Just get a rail that will go on the side so you don't have to worry about him falling out.

Don't move him to a big boy bed until you are comfortable that he needs it. If he climbs out of the crib when it's set to the lowest setting, then it's time. I have a friend who's 3 year old is still in a crib. Mine is about to be two, I plan on switching at about 2 and a half or maybe a little later. I want him to be talking more first so that we can discuss the new bed and maybe he can even help me pick it out :)

If he can climb out of his crib then you should do it now. Around 2 years old is the right time. Skip the toddler bed..its a waste of time and money. Twin bed with an adjustable side safetyrail to prevent him from falling out. Your crib might be a two in one or 3 in one and you might be able to turn it into a toddler bed witha screw driver and pliers. Check it out first. My son was 22 months and daughter was 18 monthes

My daughter stayed in her crib for 2 1/2 years, and would have been in there longer had we not needed it for her brother. As long as your son isn't too long for the bed, it's okay to leave him in it a while longer. If it's a convertible bed, you might take the front rail panel off for a daybed like crib. Otherwise, just do what you think he feels comfortable with.

Well if your son is climbing or trying to climb out of his crib I would say it is time to move him out of his crib. My son didn't really try to climb out of the crib (there was only once or twice he tried). My son was moved into a single bed and we put up a bed rail when he turned 2yrs. He loves it. We also had to move him out of the crib as we are expecting so thought better get him use to being in a big bed ahead of time. I will add tho my son likes to get out of bed and come out and play rather than go to sleep so I put the baby gate up in front of his door until he is asleep then i remove it.

I bought my daughter a toddler bed when she was right around 2. I think I actually got it for her for her 2nd birthday. She was happy to have what she called a big girl bed. It was white with a side on it at the top of the bed and the foot of the bed was open.

my son joey is two he kept climbing out if his crib when he was about 18 months old and that is when i got him a toddler bed. I kept thinking one of those days he would lose his grip climbing out of the crib and fall and hurt himself so if he is climbing out of his bed i say move him to a toddler bed

I waited until my kids were around 3 - they were happy in thier cribs, so I figured, why rock the boat. Plus I think when they are three, you are able to reason with them better and they understand STAY in the bed!
