A hundred pound is a lot of money to spend on your boss. I understand it`s ruby wedding but that`s the sort of money only family would spend on someone - and even then it`s very generous. The problem with this is - it might make your boss think you are sucking up or you are after a pay rise or something - do you know what i mean ? Also you put her in the position of - well when your birthday comes round, or christmas comes - what does she buy you...? AND - sorry to go on but it has to be said - don`t start something you can`t finish. That means if you spend a hundred pound now, what will you spend next year - presuming you have the same boss then and aren`t out of work wishing you`d held onto that hundred quid....?
I think you should seriously cut that amount down - i mean it.
You can get beautiful gifts for around 25 quid - which i think is a decent amount to spend - and won`t embarrass anyone. A nice little figurine or something for the house. Hard to say as we don`t know her like you do.

As a Ruby Wedding gift is also for the husband I would try doing something like this. There is a rose bush especially for this. It is called Ruby Wedding and you will get this from any half decent nursery or garden centre (always phone first). You then could get them vouchers for something they are in to whether in be restaurant, theatre, hobby etc. Most people after 40 years of marriage dread getting more glassware, ornaments etc for their home as they already have more than adequate. In this way you are giving something they will enjoy and also through the bush you are putting some real throught in to their gift.

I wouldnt go rubies, thats too personal for a bosses gift. How about a pretty anniversary clock for tehir mantle. I dont know where you would get it in your country, I am in America, but this is the type of clock I am talking about and it would be appropriate because 40 years is a long time to be married

Good luck!

For your boss, I would stick to something simple and not too personal. Also, unless you know for sure they're wine or liquor drinkers, I'd stay away from giving alcohol - it could be a sensitive situation.

How about ruby red waterford glasses?

Even if they don't drink, they're lovely to display.

It is unnecessary for you to get anything that has to do with rubies. That is for her husband to do. Just get her something you think they might enjoy, like a gift certificate to a restaurant. Enclose a card wishing them a happy 40th.

I bought my mum and dad a rose tree called (you guessed) ruby wedding. It smells lovely. Any rose grower will know of it or try http://www.classicroses.co.uk/roses/r/ruby_wedding.html and as it only costs a tenner you'll have loads left over for a really nice pot to put it in

We had some red wine and wine glasses for ours and thought it was a great gift. We drank the wine and still have the lovely glasses to remind us of the event.
