I mean, we've scientifically proven that chemical imbalance causes a lot of mental discord including bi-polar disorder, depression, and the anxiety and drama of youth. I just thought that our society was more advanced than that (intillectually) than to blame a real physiological disorder on "Demons" (i.e. in the Christian sense of invisible devils that do bad stuff to you???)
So for those who believe in possession and "Demons", why do you think it's "Demons" and not a chemical/hormonal imbalance?

I'm asking because of this question earlier and the last three answers it got. These people were awefully quick to assume this young man was possessed:

Logan, no, actually they've proven that most criminals like Manson have mental defect, too. There's something physiologically wrong with the part of the brain where empathy and restraint are centered.

Mental Illness IS a chemical imbalance...
...and these imbalances usually come from genetics, drug abuse or sometimes severe physical or mental trauma.
Now I'm not one to support the Fundamental Christians by any means, but because mental illness can be quite scary sometimes I can see how one would label it "demonic".
I think they label it demonic because it gives them something to point a finger at instead of addressing the real issue.
And we all know how good "Christians" are at finger pointing- don't we.

who are you to say that demons don't cause chemical imbalances? We, as an intellectually advanced society, do acknowledge that there is more going on scientifically than meets the eye. There is an innumerable amount of things that go on all around us that we can't see with the aided eye; that we need electronic detectors for. In theoretical physics there are NINE dimensions of space\time. For those who don't know, theoretical physics encompasses quantum physics, string theory, and others like it.
As an advanced society full of advanced human beings, we can't comprehend more than four dimensions of space; they are length, width, depth, and time. This means that we can't comprehend half of what's actually going on around us.
What makes us human? For you evolutionists, why did we decide to make and improve our tools and why our our ape ancestors still around? Shouldn't we have evolved together? And where are those ancestors of ours who link us to the apes? And why can't we find their bones?
I ask these questions because I believe that we were in fact created by God. It was God who built both the universe and the human body along with all other living things. Can we see God? No. Can we measure God? We can only measure those things that are within the first four out of the nine dimensions. We can't measure half of what goes on in the universe.
God is alive and He has a spirit. As this is for Christians, the Bible says that nothing was created except through the Spirit of God. I'll not go into discussing the trinity; but if nothing was created except through the Spirit, doesn't it make sense that the foundation of the universe would be in spirit, that the foundation of man would be in spirit? Couldn't it also make sense that there are evil beings that could affect your spirit which would in turn affect the chemical balances of your brain?
Another question, have you ever seen anyone who is bipolar suddenly go manic on you? I have. It happens in an instant and their eyes change. They sort of glaze over. It looks almost like the core of who they are has recessed and there is something else controlling them. I believe in freedom of choice and that we should definitely exercise our wills. When we don't exercise our wills, they begin to atrophy. The bipolar man made a decision that got him where he is now, even if that decision was to not make a decision, he still made his choice.

From what I have rad and observed you are getting mental illness and demon possession confused. I personally don't think demon possession takes place that often But I do think it happens. If you have ever seen an interview with Charles Manson Then you will see he is obviously possessed. There is no other reasonable explanation for it. I would also guess that most serial killers are possessed. But here is the thing it is my belief that Possession can only take place after someone has made a conscience decision to reject GOD. Once that happens GOD will turn he back on you . After all he gave us the freedom to choose him or reject him.

If mental illness is not caused by Demons then Jesus would be exposed as a fake, since he repeatedly healed the sick by casting out demons. But since Jesus is God and cannot make mistakes or mislead, it would appear as though Demons do cause what it commonly attributed to mental illness and other sicknesses.
Right Christians?

I believe both. I think 99% of the time it is due to chemical imbalances. But, there are times it is demonic.

Probably the same people who think you can cure leprosy with doves blood and ashes like it says in Leviticus. LOL
P.S.
Many mentally ill people suffered gruesome exorcisms or were even condemned as witches etc because of that.
It's good that we have medical science and common sense today. Now if we can only get certain Christians to understand that not EVERYTHING in the bible is to be taken literally.

i believe almost all are chemical and hormonal imbalances. however, there can be a rare case where someone is possessed. and when a person is possessed, they may suffer mental defects. they may suffer physical defects.... they may not show any mental or physical signs.... it all depends.... but i think most are most DEFINITELY chemical imbalances

Ah, the rustling sound of Christians turning their backs on the teachings of Jesus by admitting that mental disease is not caused by possessions by demons. Jesus absolutely taught that disease was demonic and could be cured simply by prayer, faith, fasting and touch.

But it's uasually chemical/hormonal imbalances, of course.
I'd say 99.9% of the time, but there are times when it is demonic.
