She loves the taste of tea (I am a sweet tea drinker) but my dad gave her some of his unsweetened tea and she loved it also! She doesn't like drinking water at all, so I thought maybe this would be better than juice for her. Any thoughts of opinions? BTW I am talking about decaf tea without sugar. Thanks!

She does drink a ton of milk, and I've started giving her water in a sports bottle, which she likes, but she chokes a lot on it because it comes out too fast. I would only give 4-6 ounces of tea per day, just give it instead of juice.

To Linda, I am clearly the parent. There is a constant debate as to whether or not to give juices at all to your toddler because of the high sugar content. Look it up! Tea is 99% water with a little added flavor. Obviously you are ignorant when it comes to what children "should" be drinking. I am offended by your attitude towards my question and I hope you don't have snide remarks like that towards your children if you have any.

I asked my pediatrician about this when my daughter was about 2, because daughter liked to share my iced tea (regular, not decaf) when we went out to eat.

Pediatrician was of the opinion that normal iced tea, as served in a cup with lots of ice, did not contain anything in a concentration sufficient to cause my daughter harm. This was assuming that my daughter was only taking a few swallows of the tea, which she was, and that she only consumed it occasionally, which was also true.

Daughter is now 14 and still likes to drink iced tea, also enjoys hot camomile tea in the evenings. No harm seems to have come to her.

FWIW, my mom tells me (I can't remember this myself) that my grandpa, her father, used to feed my brother and I sugar cubes dipped in his coffee when we were toddlers. I don't think we were harmed by this practice, although interestingly neither my brother or I drink coffee.

My son doesnt care for fruit juice either. But he LOVES Fruit2O. Its the bottled water with a splash of fruit juice and some of the flavors come with a full day's supply of 10 essentual vitamins. As for tea heck darlin my son has been "drinking" tea for a few months as soon as he realized that he could take our cups and drink from them. He's 10 months old. Now I dont give him 8 ounces or nothing just the little sips that make him feel like a "big boy" I drink sweet tea too but he'll drink unsweetened if its in my cup and mine has caffine! Your child is 14 months old thats over a yr feed him whatever you want!

She should be fine! I have been giving my son decaf sleepytime tea before bed to help him sleep since he was that age. She should be fine. My son will only drink water in a sports bottle he also likes the lemon or lime water by Arrowhead.

I think no more than 6 ounces of unsweeted, decaf tea a day would be okay. Even decaf tea and coffee have trace amounts of caffeine so limit consumption.

Long as it's not a lot. Tea is a major cause of kidney infections, but I gave it to my kids. Try giving her water when she is hungry, she will see that she doesn't have a choice. After that give a normal bottle try it the next day and so forth thats how she will get used to it. Once a day to start, so you wont feel so bad about letting her cry.

It still has a little caffeine, but not enough to worry about. I drank a ton of it when I was pregnant. I figured it's basically like drinking flavored water.

I would suggest asking your doctor. Millions of English and Irish parents have been giving their children tea for hundreds of years. I would rather have my child drinking tea than Coke.

as long as their is no sugar as the sugar will rot her teeth, sugar is an acquired taste so do not encourage it. Tea is actually quit beneficial especially green tea or white tea.

I don't think it would be bad, as long as she gets enough milk. It's better than kool-aid anyway.
