And how do you stop her from doing it. She never did it before.

First off, did you change anything affecting the litter box, litter, location of the box, new box, got a new pet? If you have, this could be your problem. Cats can be really prissy about where they go to the bathroom and if it doesn't smell or look like what they are used to, they will find somewhere else to go. Solution to this would be (gross as it is) leave some of her feces in the box so it smells correct to her (and make sure you clean up the other spots she has gone very well so she knows those are not the right spots)

Diet changes or new plants in the house that the cat may eat could lead to digestive problems that would also cause the cat to go #2 elsewhere if they aren't feeling well.

And finally, if none of the above fits, I do agree with most everyone else and think you should go see a vet - it could be anything from digestion problems to worms and you need to get that checked.

Mary L. is correct see a vet. The cat could have the bladder or urinary tract infection and she/he associates the pain of emptying the bladder with the litter box. That may sound strange but is true. Good Luck

This could be a sign of one of two things: A behavior related problem that has developed or a medical condition.

To rule out a medical condition the first thing you should do is to see your local vet. There are many medical problems associated with bowel problems, and this may be a sign of them.

If this is ruled out then this would most likely be a behavior problem that has developed (territorial etc..), which can also be helped by talking to a vet/vet tech/behaviorist.

Usually this means she has a urinary tract infection, which cats are subject to. Take her to the vet.
Did you change litter brands, or make any other changes to your routine? She could be showing her displeasure in this way. You may need to try spending extra time with her to help her regain her confidence, cats are very rule bound!

It could be a medical issue. I would check with your vet to be sure. If you have added any additional pets it could be territorial. If you have moved recently he/she could be responding to stress. it could be a number of things, but it's best to check with your vet.
