Well the first thing to do is to calm down.
Try to give us more of a description of what is going on with the cats hair. Are lots of clumps falling out? Is the hair matted or clumpy?
I can't tell you anything other then to take your cat to the vet at this point. He/she will be able to help you if there is something wrong.
Take a breather, relax for a minute and try not to panic. Try to assess the cats physical condition accurately and call the vet for advice as well.
Please don't try to medicate the cat on your own. This will only cause more problems.
~hope this helps.

Don't panic, I swear it's totally normal. Cats start to shed their fur around a certain time of the year, every year as well as dogs. It's no big deal, she/he will shed for a few weeks and then it will stop. You can by certain brushes at pet stores to brush the fur out so the shedding is quicker. If you are still worried though, take your cat to the vet just to be sure, but I'm 99 percent sure that is not necessary, my cat will probably start shedding again in a few months and I have had her for almost 3 years and plenty of other cats before her.

I would check with a vet to see what the problem is. Do you have fleas in your home? Two of my cats were having a lot of problems due to fleas (we just could not get them out of our house). It may also be the food I would imagine. You can also try changing it or the cat may just have allergies in general. My calico had allergies and she was put on Prednisone due to her hair falling out and it really helped.

To much salt in the cats diet will cause it's hair to fall out. You can change the cats diet. Choose cat food with less sodium & other salts in it.

several things could cause this.. Stress.. as my doctor calls it
"blowing coat"
if you had an extremely cold winter it could just be normal shedding..
other medical causes, as someone mentioned, too much salt, diabetes, and ringworm (which is really just a fungus) and mange (you would also see scabs and scaley skin.) ..
or it could be as simple as allergies..
relax.. take your baby to the vet, I'm sure everything will be okay :)

There are a lot of reasons for hair loss, so you really should talk to your vet.
