Anyone know the guidelines for getting certified as a licensed tattoo artist in California? My husband is trying to get all his certificates in order so he can start working. Unfortunately though, none of the other artists that he has spoken too are not, nor have ever been certified (scary thought, isn't it). I was on the CA Dept of Health Web Page but they don't tell you anything (I typed in Tattoo for the search and got an article on bike helmets???). So, since I am now unhealthily addicted to yahoo answers, I was hoping someone here might be able to share the process, requirements and fees associated with accomplishing this.

Thank you so much for your help!

You need to contact your county to see what's up there. All I know is that in Santa Clara County it is under the Dept. of Environmental Health. Try there. Each county is regulated separately in CA.
