I have completely given up of syrup. Took a while, but I found an alternative that worked well for me.
I now use a 'mango spread'. It has no sugar added and you can spread it on like a jelly. It's really delicious. You can usually find it in a store like 'Trader Joes' or 'Central Market'. (ethnic or health food stores). This is also really, really yummy mixed with a low salt salsa over baked chicken!
But experiment with alternatives. Consider:
No Sugar Added Cinnamon Apple Sauce
No Sugar Added Fruit Cups
Low Fat / Low Sugar Pudding Cup
or even your favorite Low Fat Yogurt (Banana is great).
Enjoy! :)

I love syrup but just found out that I am a borderline diabetic, so I have switched to Mrs. Butterworth's Sugarfree Syrup. It really tastes quite good. I have noticed, though, that all of these sugarfree syrups have a slight acidic taste. Mrs. Butterworth's and Aunt Jemima's are the best, and Log Cabin isn't bad but the acidic taste is a bit more prominent. Also, I found a great recipe for oat bran pancakes on the Splenda website.

i have tried low-fat syrups, they taste pretty good, have about half the calories of regular syrup, and don't have the bad aftertaste of sugar-free. I also like the idea that others have posted of using jams & jellies. You might be able to make "syrups" out of those by thinning them with water.

I like using Polaner's All Fruit, it is less sweet than jam, but delicious. We sometimes cut up a few bananas and warm them on the stove with a little butter and maple syrup, it is delicious and healthy too. I have also done this with sliced apples, a little cinnamon and butter and a tablespoon or so of water. You can microwave the apples first to soften.
My nephew likes Peanut butter, or apple butter, or almond butter, all high protein choices to improve the quality of your meal.
