My son is a plasterer in Northern Ireland. He and his two friends would like to go and work in Australia for 1 year. We dont know where to go to find out how to apply for a visa. I have a sister living in Adelaide, I dont know if that would help his application.

Go to the Australian embassy website and you can find all the information that is needed for a one year working visa, like how much money he needs, the cost of the visa and age requirements(I'm pretty sure that it's 30) and you can down load the appropriate forms needed.Your son will have no problem finding a job as people in the building industry here are in big demand.I hope that it all works out for you son and I hope that he has a deadly time when he is here.

Best advice is for you to call/consult the nearest Australian embassy in your area and ask them about the process and the requirement for getting a work visa. You can also visit the immigration and citizenship section of the Australian government. I'm sure if you google it, you will find a link that will help you. Last option is to have your sister in Adelaide to contact the local immigration office and ask the questions on your behalf. Good luck.

PS: Remember to take into consideration your son and his friend's age. If they are still too young, you may be required to write a letter stating permission from parents/guardian.

Don't bother the embassies until you have checked the Department of Immigration web site at http://www.immi.gov.au
They have all you need to know about visas, working in Australia and sponsorship. You will also find all the necessary forms there.
