For external bend, simply cut the flange on both sides about 5-6 times approx 3/4" apart and bend the tray slightly at each cut until 90 degree is reached, same for internal bend but cut triangles out of the flanges.
Would suggest buying bends - much easier and quicker and neater.

Cable Tray Bends

This would be done by roll-forming. However, manufacturers of cable tray systems offer pre-formed radii for many angles, eliminating the need to bend. This would come from requirements that the cable tray system is designed, built, tested and labeled to meet national and state electrical codes. Using anything else in an indrustrial environment would put you in violation.

There is nothing easy about bending Cable tray but it is a matter of cutting the tray on the appropriate angles you are looking for I am an Electrician and install tray all the time as far as state codes that guy hasn't a clue as to what he's talking about probably and engineer and you know how smart they are when it comes to the practical part ask your supplier some of them can get installation guides as well this could refresh your memory. It's too bad we can't post pictures on this site anyways if you are into baseball there is a project that consists of a laimated pine shaped like a baseball glove with a protruding piece to hold the ball and another to hold the bat. you can also incorporate leather lace to simulate an actual glove. So basically look at a real glove flattened out five fingered, lace thru drilled holes near top of fingers. you can also go one step more after you have varathaned the wood and decopage (spelling?) a card to it
