if he can figure out how to mount her and do the deed than he's old enough, usually that's around a year old. It's not like with a female that even if he's too young the mating will still take place... if he's too young, it's just not going to happen. Leave him be with a female and you'll soon find out if he's ready or not.

first things first it all depends on the breed & what health checks he needs to undergo before being used at stud. If he's a breed with hip or elbow dysplasia, he needs to be at least a year before those tests can be done. most dogs are between the age to 2 -3 yrs old

The only people who should be breeding dogs are serious breeders. Serious breeders are those who:

1) Are actively involved in dogs sports such as conformation showing, obedience, agility, field trials, etc,

2) Seriously study pedigrees and genetics and have their breeding stock checked for genetic health issues (hip, eye certifications, etc.) and do not breed animals with health problems.

3) Have only 1-2 litters of puppies total per year and focus on only one, maybe two different breeds of dogs.

4) Are striving to improve a registered, purebred breed of dog.

Unfortunately, there are literally millions of unwanted dogs put to death in shelters every year in this country. Given this situation it is irresponsible to breed mixed breed dogs including the currently popular "designer breeds". Also, many people are disappointed to find that their family pet does not meet the breed club standard. You really need to think long and hard about this and realize there is little money in this. If you are really serious you should start going to dog shows and try to learn and find a breeder who can be a mentor to you.

At least 2 years old, evaluated by a show judge against the breed standard AND certified that it is free from any genetic health defect that can be passed on to pups. Neuter your dog if it does not meet any of the criteria listed please.

i cant believe you want to breed when so many puppies are abandoned into the cold becaues there arent enough devoting people who can actually afford to keep pets for their lifetime. Do the shelters a favor, get your dog fixed.

As a guideline, if you don't know already, it is probably not a good idea.
