This come down to continuity within the police.
Somebody has to be held accountable for all action when following a chain of evidence.

So getting the blood and testing it and taking it to court would be fine, but what would happen if a solicitor suddenly says,
Prove that the blood is over the limit.

We'd all scratch our heads going erm, because the computer says so.

It just makes it an airtight case if the doctor provides the certificate, because its harder to put doubt on a person in court than it is a machine

This is to certify that the blood sample was taken from you and in accordance with correct legal procedure. When a blood sample is later analysed for alcohol it has to be clear that the result appertains to you. The doctor's certificate constitutes part of what is known as the chain of continuity. If this chain is 'broken' then the results of any blood alcohol analysis could be deemed as being inadmissible as evidence. Frequently, this is a line of defence used in drink driving offences. This is not to be confused with the analyst's certificate which states the alcohol level found in the blood. In both cases 'certificate' is a term used to described a form stating the relevant facts quickly. Both constitute proper statements under the Criminal Justice Act .

It is for police evidence and they are given a copy to show their defence lawyer. It is a good idea because the lawyer then knows the truth and not the offenders version and would usually advise guilty plea.

the same reason that the breathalyzer machines must be calibrated and certified - to ensure the court that the results are true and accurate.

would you want your fate held in the balance of what would otherwise amount to hearsay? certification is required.

It proves you were over the limit and it is police evidence.
