This question is not for you to start listing people. Nor is this question meant to foster some sort of negativity.

Isn't it true though that there are SOME people on every side who are closed-minded? Athiest, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and Other Spiritual/Religious Convictions?

Yes, I agree think the world would be a better place if people of all beliefs would just give a little and at least consider other beliefs and try a little understanding. I am a Christian I don't believe in specific religion. I believe in the Bible and my own interpretation of it. I do go to church but have a mind of my own and some of their beliefs I can't accept. Just a FYI I I believe on The Bible in whole not just in parts.

Oh yes, one can meet those who are dogmatically certain about ANYTHING. Britain as the lost tribe of Israel, the MMR vaccine as the cause of autism...
There's nothing like utter certainty to ease the difficulties engendered by actually weighing evidence and considering other points of view.

I've been open-minded enough to change my views drastically over time (given what seemed good reason, and better information). But I still have to work at it.

Though note: being too open-minded and believing everything, or everyone, is also a recipe for disaster!

You are true to say that there are close-minded people in every religious faction, which is a very sad thing. Close-mindedness is one of the great evils in our world. An open mind towards things can help you to learn more and more, whereas a closed mind will not accept anything except that which they have already been told. Close-minded people are very sad indeed.

Yes. You're absolutely right. I honestly try to remain as open minded as possible. I know that there are people who are probably saying to themselves yeah right whatever. Maybe even you are saying the same thing. I could be wrong however and I'll admit it. The only thing I can hope for is that people see that I am truly trying to get along with everybody here. I get angry and frustrated at times with people on this forum. I am human. I apologize if I have offended anybody. I don't know what else I can say. I'm at my wits end.

Yeah, there are people on every side who are close-minded. I go to a college where there's a large amount of Christians, and while they're all generally very friendly and I have nothing against them, I get the feeling that they actively choose not to inform themselves about certain things.

Especially when so many of them - I hate to say it, but it's true - blindly follow Bush, supporting the war, etc. Sadly, I feel like they support him because he's a 'good Christian man with values' ...but if they really opened their eyes and found out what's really going on, they'd be appalled.

Are people who consider others closed-minded also being closed-minded themselves? I am sure that I could answer a question in such a way (and I probably have) that I would be considered very closed-minded by others, but I am do not consider myself so.

If I have sailed around the world, yet don't listen to the people saying the world is flat am I closed-minded?

Everybody certainly has the capacity to be close-minded, and there are baffoons and narrow-minded individuals on all sides of any fence.

However, in general the agnostics/atheists tend to be marginally more open-minded than the buddhists and followers of eastern philosophy, who themselves tend to be miles ahead of the judeo-christian faith followers.

EDIT: Oh and naturally most people will see those who disagree with them as being more "close-minded" by default. It's an emotional self defense mechanism.

Well, of course there are close minded people in all faiths. I, however, believe that God gave me a brain to think with. He wants me to USE that brain, to learn, and to expand it. I love learning about what makes other people tick. I have a very strong personal faith, so the beliefs of others won't change that. But I appreciate the fact that everybody doesn't think or believe the same. Closing your mind to the world around you, also closes your mind to all the wonders God gave us.

Sure, but if you examine it and don't believe it, that is not a sign that you are. Refusing to examine it enough to understand what you don't believe is.

I can honestly say I don't know too many atheists that fit that. Most of us know very well why we don't believe. In fact most of us did believe at some point.

On the other hand, people a lot of people argue about evolution without the slightest idea what they are even opposed to. (Want links?)

Yes, we are on a quest to know the truth about things. We are all living through thought forms that are actually illusion. Negativity and separation is an illusion created by man kind that can be transcended,
