No Sarah. I have been in treatment for panic and anxiety since 1984...sometimes on medication and sometimes not and sometimes just on it on an as needed basis. Never though was the medication alone the complete answer...though it took me eight years and an emergency admittance to the hospital to figure that out. What has helped me...along with medicine when needed...was cognitive behavioral therapy and peer support groups.
I would suggest you get the book The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook by Dr. Edmund Bourne. It is an invaluable help, even if you must also be in therapy. There is an online group that I was a part of at one time called Panic and Anxiety Connection...the address is www.pac-connection.com. Its a peer based group...no charge and the contact person to join is ShellzPAC@aol.com (you can tell her Peg told her to write, she knows I give her address out to others who need help).

Xanax is just a great miracle drug for anxiety and panic, however the more you take the more you need and Bam you are addicted. You really need to see a Dr and probably get an antidepressant and a low dose of xanax. But be careful with those xanax and stay under a Dr.'s care

I have tried Zoloft for anxiety and panic attacks and it helps quite a bit. Really takes the edge off of the anxiety and also helps with the headaches the anxiety gives me. Its not perfect though. I did stop having panic attacks altogether with it and that was great. Xanax does help a bit, but I find it just makes me tired, though everyone else I know who has taken it just loves it. So I guess it just depends on what works best for you, everyone's brains are different.

Xanax is the drug that people love to hate, and, hate to love. For those of us with panic/anxiety,it is a wonder drug. Xanax comes at an awful price. It's not dollars but the fact that you are at a high risk of becoming addicted. Find a Dr that cares about you(rare, but they do exist) be totally honest with them.NEVER exceed dosage and talk out your problems WHILE you are on the xanax. I know the awesome power that xanax possesses, and I proceed with caution. It is the only drug that has made my life livable. You don't have to live with anxiety. There are options for you. Good luck

I think that the best solution to this problem is therapy while taking a drug. If one drug doesn't work, don't fret. There are a million types out there and each kind is different for each person. However, I have heard that immediate family tends to gravitate to the same type of drug. Me and a couple siblings are on Cymbalta, but I had to go through many different drugs and different drug strenghts before I found the one that worked for me. I can physically tell if I have went too long without anxiety medicine!

I use to have an extremely severe form of test anxiety that used to cause me to act hysterically during tests and exams. However my doctor recommended a drug called Xanax. The minute I swallowed the Xanax pill, fear and impending doom melted away and I started to feel invincible to my fears. It worked so well I was even able to laugh at my own anxiety and be able to finish my exam. If you have a really severe form of anxiety Xanax is by far the miracle pill. Talk to your doctor about it. You will be amazed the results. However to get the best results use Xanax along with therapy.
