To imply that Revelation states or symbolizes the number of people on earth would be to imply we would know when the tribulation would start. The book of Revelation does not (so far as I know) have anything even remotely close to it...

As with the others, the Book of Revelations does not give such information. As for truth, that depends on what you are looking for. What truth are you talking about. For me, truth has to be eternal, applicable at all times and places. There is no such thing as a true principel that applies to one but not to the other. Truth includes personal revelation, the ability for each of us to receive answers to our prayers, to feel what direction the Holy Ghost is steering us. If we follow those spiritual promptings, then we will be led to eternal truth, the fulness of the Gospel and a personal assurance that allows us to move forward in life.
If you want more specific answers, then give us a more specific question.

Revelation does state this, nor imply this by some symbolism.
Those who tell you otherwise are probably just trying to fit Revelation to their own presuppositions or agenda.
***UPDATE***
Lots of truth. Accurate Numbers too! No dates though. But accurate numbers are accurate as long as you understand the purpose of them. Once you loose that purpose those numbers are no longer accurate.

I am pretty familiar with the book of Revelation and I am not aware of it making such a statement nor can I recall any symbolism that could be interpreted in that way. If someone else has a better answer I would like to hear it also.

Revelation does not mention the number of people housed by the world nor does it give dates, stated or implied.
If you are interested in studying Revelation let me know, I can give you some good resources.

Wasn't stated or implied. Just someone else pretending the book of Revelation says something it doesn't.

It doesn't and if it did it would be wrong. We passed that number before the millennium changed. We're at nearly 6 1/4 billion now.
