It is a fair question. The best answer I can give you is that I looked at religion and found that it did not answer ANY of the questions that I had. It made no sense to me.
But maybe to better understand it - consider:
Why don't you believe in Islam or Buddhism or Astrology or Scientology (or whatever isn't your choosen religion)? Because they don't work for you and because you have found something better - I suspect. It's the same for Atheists and Agnostics.

To answer your question you must first understand the nature and true meaning of the word. A or Al is a derivation of the Latin root anti meaning against or in disfavor. In 1600 A.D. there was a religious sect who called themselves the Theist's who insisted that the bible was absolutely true and that it should be believed in word for word and could only be interpreted their way. They imposed harsh and often terrible penalties on the population who would resist such dogma. They were eventually overthrown in 1725 A.D. To this day anyone who does not agree with an established doctrine or dogma is called Atheist or anti theist. True to the nature of language it has been taken to believe something different now. It does not and has never meant that someone does not believe in God, only in a person or idiom's idea of what God is. However, there are those who are atheist who do not believe in god. I am one of them. I believe in man, and in so doing believe in God, because God is an invention of man, used quite often to enslave, misuse and otherwise segregate our society. More is the pity.

As a baptized Catholic..I was told to believe regardless of the non existence evidence of a God...the whole point was that I would be accepted only if I believed the unbelievable...
Thus, now I'm an atheist.. that's just too much to ask for.. too much scientific evidence to the contrary.

because of the fact we've a attitude on faith. Its unlike disliking burgers and not going to burger king - persons liking burger king does not impression my life in the way faith does. Its extra like regulation abiding human beings having an opinion on crime. Why do such a number of human beings mistake a loss of perception in gods as a loss of interest in faith and spirituality?

hi, well I would say that, they start by not believing because they hear so many things from all people, now a days, especially churches and stuff are now talking that the world is to a close end, and well, from just hearing all kinds of rumors they get confuse so then they are like whatever, and dont listen to no one, because lots of people are putting alot of things in their head, whats right and whats wrong and stuff you know....if you want to talk more...

Lack of evidence means you don't need to believe. Disbelief is the logical default so you should be asking what makes one a believer?

Atheist believe there is no higher power then themselves.
Agnostic people believe that their could be a higher power but they cannot name or understand the higher power.

An atheist requires scientific proof of the existence of something before they believe it to exist. In other words, atheists don't have faith.

Basically the facts. Once one adds them up, all possible belief in the supernatural / occult explanation of existence evaporates.

The lack of superstition. Belief in the natural. No belief in the supernatural. Knowledge. Intelligence. Common sense.
