Most of the time I have a cocktail or beer before I eat. With the meal, most of the time, I have a water with a lime wedge. If I'm with friends and it is a special night out I'll have a glass of wine with dinner. After dinner, if we are going out on the town I'll have a few more cocktails. But if I know I've had too many I'll call a friend or a cab to get me home.

Of course you can never go wrong with the right beer selection. Only the wrong beer selection is considered unsophisticated.
For fine dining the best idea sometimes is to ask the sommelier. If you want to appear knowledgeable, get there early and ask while your date is in the restroom. Otherwise, I suggest buying a book about beer and wine.
Stay away from mixed drinks with dinner. Mixed drinks are great for house parties and wedding showers. The purpose of mixed drinks is to get your date drunk; never try to get your date drunk in potentially embarrassing situations.

you dont have to drink with your meal. you can have a soda which is just fine. some people may not have alcohol at home, so they get it at a restaurant. while on a date, i dont think many girls will order alcohol..at least on the first date. later on they may order a wine, but i could never get the hang of sipping wine with a meal. i want something i can DRINK like water or tea.
most times, now, i do order a drink. but it's ALWAYS something i've never had and cant make myself at home. since im just trying for the first time i'll just pay the $5 or $6 rather than going to the liquor store and buying 3-5 bottles to make one drink.

I think it is important to drink an alcoholic beverage with your meal out such as some fine boxed wine. How else is he going to get your poop shoot?

It depends on what I'm going to be eating...but, usually I have a vodka martini with the appetizers and then a nice glass of wine with dinner.

I like beer. something darker on tap preferably :) Richards red or honeybrown, or mountain crest.. MMMMM :)
i stay away from those piss light beers cause they taste like piss. like kokanee, or bug light, or coors light.. all piss. but anything dark, creamy and rich is for me :)
but beer is beer.. mmm beer

and if i'm somewhere fancier then i have wine, and the type red or white, will depend on my meal. I'm a huge steak and pasta with meat sauce fan, so I usually go for a medium dry red wine. If imhaving a sandwich or somethign light then i go for a white.

If I can't have a beer (driving), then I either have sparkling water with lime, or an iced tea with lemon.
