My advice is its not worth it. A car is a car is a car. They are for one purpose to get you from A to B. And anyone who thinks a car is a measure of you as person is ignorant. It took me a very long time to realize that. I've made car payments for so long and still don't have much to show for it. I finally wised up and bought a cash car, which I'm very happy with! I still get from A to B, but now I have cash in pocket and bank account.
And to the "Used cars are for loser trash" comment - how does NOT BEING IN DEBT make you a loser?! I've never told a man, Ooooh, that high car payment you can't afford is sooo sexy.

I like to drive a car until it begins having problems. Then I get a used car that is not very old with low mileage. A new car will depreciate so much the first year that it will not be a good buy. You can't go wrong with a used Honda or Toyota. They are very dependable and have a good trade-in value.

If appearance is important to you then that is a good enough reason to upgrade. Remember though that normal repairs will not cost you anywhere near what car payments will. I would say it all depends on what is more important to you, appearance or money.

Cars can be real babe magnets so if you are in the dating world it might be something to consider :-) Also, newer cars are more reliable. On the flip side, if your car is running good why would you want the burden of a car payment and higher insurance premiums?

the main advantage is that it would be under warranty. I was in the same spot as you. What I did was just saved. When I was really sick of my car . We just went down and paid cash (18k) and bought something that still had a factory waranty.
