It would first take the full support of both parties to go all out and win the war. Then if we didn't make any progress in Iraq, I'd say we can't win there. Unfortunately too many in congress are more interested in scoring political points than actually winning.

There are two main sides to this fight. Us and them. America (and the baby government we're trying to protect) and the enemies (the people blowing up markets and instigating civil war)

If America leaves, that would mean the two sides of this fight would be the baby government with no protection, and the enemies (the people blowing up markets and instigating civil war)

Once the enemy has destroyed the baby government through assassination and civil war, a neighboring country will most likely move in and make it a protectorate. This would most likely be Iran, and they would install an extreme government like the one they have.

The Iraqi people would be worse off than before, and instead of remembering America as the great liberators, they would think of us as the people who came in, took away their only form of protection (even though Sadam was evil), and handed them to the wolves.

This would foster a feeling of hate against America and her allies, and would be an incredible breeding ground for Al Qieda.

We would then have a terrorist country like Afghanistan, but a lot more pissed off. And any action we would try to stop them would result in world hatred of us, because the world would see America as moving back in to tear the country apart again.

This, my friend, would be a lost war.

Try looking at it not as one event. It is actually just one round in a very long fight. If we ain't in it, we cant win it. The waves errode the dikes, the people have to keep adding to the dikes or the sea will flood in. Same with Islamic terrorists, they are'nt going to give up untill they are on top. Go ahead, give up and retreat, stay out of things. Study the Koran and convert.....there are no athiests in Islam.
