God just watches... and laughs!

I wouldn't say that God helps ONLY those who help themselves, but God expects us to do our part, too.
Let's take for example a pregnancy. The woman can pray that her baby will be born healthy and that there will be no complications in the delivery process, but if she smokes and drinks and takes drugs, well, you see where I'm going. On the other hand, if she takes care of herself, eats well, etc. then she's done what she can; God's work at that point is in taking care of all the "random" things that can happen. (Such as someone hitting her car while she's on her way to delivery.)
And remember, God doesn't answer every prayer exactly as we want it. He isn't some sort of cosmic vending machine, after all! ;-)

lol I can see how you'd take that one the wrong way, but it means that you need to get up and take some sort of action one way or another, and not just lie there wondering when God will help you.
Sort of like that old joke about the man whose house was flooding. A bus comes by to rescue him from the rising waters but he refuses, saying God will save him. The water rises to the 2nd floor and a boat comes by to rescue him. Again he refuses, God will save him. As he stands on the roof with water rising around him, a helicopter offers rescue. Again, he refuses. He dies. In Heaven, he asks God why He didn't save him ... and God says "I did, I sent a bus, a boat and a helicopter".
Get it? God helps those who help themselves.

AH, good question, but that is not in the Bible. Actually the opposite is in the Bible.
God often chooses people with a low self-esteem to do great and marvelous things. i.e. Moses. Moses begged God to send someone else, but God insisted. Moses said he was not good at public speaking, and God said I will gave you a tongue, and I will give you the words.
Abram was the son of an idol maker, but God said I will make you the father of my people.
Peter kept his foot in his mouth but God said on this rock I will build my church.
Paul was a Jewish zealot, but Jesus said I will send you to the Gentiles to bring My word to them.

The quote "God helps those who help themselves" was written by Ben Franklin, and it not in the Bible.
If by the statement you mean they we have to do our part - give God something to work with - follow his guidance - before he does much of anything, then it is a true statement. But as soon as we let him, he can and will do whatever is needed.

I for one have had many instances that GOD has helped me. Losing jobs and finding another better job within 2 weeks This happend to me twice. I can't count the number of times I've had near misses in a car. I could go on and on . But like another lady said the bottom line is faith.

Because at times (and I'm not a Christian here), there is a synergy of sorts at work. When I'm doing the will of deity, much more is accomplished than when I am doing my own thing willfully.
I might be able to accomplish a bit on my own, but when I do that which I've prayed about. much greater things happen.

Well, the "help themselves" quote comes from Benjamin Franklin, I believe, not actually found in the Bible.

No one can prove anything about God. That's the point, and the definition of Faith.

That is not in the Bible. In fact, the Bible says the opposite...that God is our help, and that He is our strength when we are weak.
