Please don't suggest any over the counter or prescription cures, I'm poor and can't afford them. But I need to quit due to health concerns. My doctor read me the riot act and other than his words and my health situation, I'm having a hard time not thinking about smoking right at this second. Actually I'm failing at that point because I'm writing for your help. So far I haven't smoked, I just need some helpful suggestions from you in the YAC, (yahoo answers community). I trust you. Tell me something that I can use, to help me from going totally nuts. PLEASE!!!!

Day two, and honestly, I cheated last night with one cigarette, but I didn't enjoy it, and so far today, I'm not smoking. I don't want to.

Please hang in there. I quite "the first time "Sept 10 2006. I smoked a pack rarely... on an extremely stressful day. I was a stress smoker, so when I quite I didn't know how to handle stress, I had 2 panic attacks Dec of 06, which I had never had before, I didn't think I would ever really stop craving a cigarette. To help with that I started working out again, I found jogging for 20 min every night at sun set, with my head phones on, helped me to battle the stress. To help me battle the urges I would try to drink 8 glasses of water a day, I also took up drinking coffee, I felt it helped to give me a little push, and it isn't as bad as smoking:however, it also makes your teeth yellow. I know this sounds nasty, but it works...if you have an urge, just smell an old ashtray, you don't want to smell like that... and you will if you start back up again.I tried to give myself a makeover, which helped, I went to a new salon and had the lady suggest a new style for my hair, I also got my nails done. I understand you don't have a lot of money "who does" just try to do what ever you can to fix yourself up. You know you want and need to quite, if you don't do it now you will do it later, why wait? Good luck I promise you will get to a point when you don't even think about them.

Sistasue, smoking just like any other addiction is %100 mental. Therefore patches otc meds and any type of prescriptions would be useless.
The key is to change your lifestyle and your mindset.
1. First of all you have to change your environment. distance yourself from other smokers and any other people who have negative influence on your life in general.
2. Go for a walk in the park instead of a Saturday night out at the club. From experience, club hopping is a breeding ground for drinking and smoking.
3. Change your eating habits. Eat healthier and drink lots of water.
4. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise!!!! This in my opinion, is the # 1 way to cure just about any addiction.
5. If you feel the urge to smoke at anytime, chew gum and find something positive to occupy your time and mind.
Doctor and other specialists want people to believe that smoking and even drug use is a chemical addiction so they can sell their products. This is absolutely not true!
Remember that just about everything that you put in your body passes out of you within hours. That alone should tell you that there is no such thing as a "chemical addiction."
I'll re emphasize again...The key to quiting bad habits is a positive change of environment and positive thinking.

Hi,
My husband quit cold turkey after 44 years. What he did was to go outside everytime he wanted to light up. He also worked a lot of search a word puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles.
He also sucked on lemon drops and butterscotchies. It worked !!! He will be 4 years without a cigarette in August.
If none of these appeal to you, could you use the money that you used for cigarettes to buy a nicorette type gum? My husband started putting his "smoke" money in a special savings account, and he now has almost eight thousand dollars. And no we aren't rich, actually we are right at the poverty level. Hon, It will take discipline, but you can do it. You just have to keep telling yourself that you can do it. Live in the now, don't worry about yesterday. or tomorrow. Just today.
Good Luck and HUGS.

I'm so glad for you. Keep up the good work. Take it one moment at a time. It takes little steps to add up. Just keep saying "Someone does care." Because we do. Think of me being by your side telling you that you are doing a good job. I know it's hard. But it will be worth it in the end. Go for a walk and count those blessings of knowing you are doing it!!
Nobody does this more than you right now. You are able to breathe again. Chew some gum. Take a drink of water and just keep on going. No one could be proud of you more than me!! See you are doing it!! You will get stressed just keep busy and know I there with you.!! Good job, see you can do it!! Just keep on!! Good luck, I am with you and you aren't alone. You will never be alone!!

You won't have wrinkles, yellow skin and yellow nails. You'll be able to run and walk more without running out of breath. You're strong enough that you don't have to resort to some small white cancer stick for help. You can finally save cash that you would normally spend on cigarettes on other necessities. YOU CAN DO IT! REMEMBER... THE FIRST DESIRE IS THE EASIEST TO RESIST... IF YOU GIVE IN NOW IMAGINE HOW HARD THE REST WILL BE!

Just keep this in mind at all times.... cravings for cigs come and go, and when a craving hits you (like after a meal, or when you wake up, etc..) ALWAYS remember that it will not stay forever. just tell yourself that, and after a craving hits... if you stay strong and know it will pass by, you will be over it in no more than 10 minutes... goodluck

Think about how slutty and trashy women look when they're out in a bar or walking down the street with a big ole smokey treat hanging out of their hand and they look like worn out old ho's. Men get sick when they see that sh*t.
You ARE NOT that woman. DO NOT pick it up.

Go outside and take a walk. Now!
Sorry about sounding so rude, but you've gotta move, girl.
Distract yourself with something positive.

SMOKING=LUNG CANCER, EMPHYSEMA, BAD BREATH, YELLOW NAILS, STAIN TEETH, STINKY HAIR, STINKY CLOTHES, STINKY CAR, STINKY CAR, ETC
suggestions: try chewing some gum, or sunflower seeds, worked for me, i know its hard but once you quit and dont need it anymore you will find yourself grossed out by the smell of a cigarrette smoke
