Keep in mind a few things if you carry computer as your accompanied baggage in Indian Railways:
1. The ownership papers: carrying of commercial goods is objectionable and can subject to fine or their impounding. To counter this objection, have enough evidence with you that it is a personal asset not meant for commerce or trade. I have seen TTE objecting to carry a TV set by a passenger.
2. Stay withing permissible limit of carrying weight - 20 Kgs for 3 tier journey or 30 Kgs for 2 tier AC per person, If weight is more, do pay for extra luggage and keep the receipt with you throughout your journey.
3. Don't place your PC in the compartment to be obvious in sight / obstructing pathways /inconvenience to any co-passenger or on the seats / berths.

This pertains to Indian Railways:
Well if you're carrying a laptop, you don't have to pay any extra charges, Whereas if your carrying a desktop with monitor, tower, keyboard boxes etc, you have to get it weighed at the luggage counter and obtain a challan for the same on paying the prescribed fees. This is mandatory although your allowed to carry baggage upto 20Kgs. It is best to get it done this way to avoid any hassles while traveling.
You may keep the boxes with you in your compartment if they are not large or many in numbers. (I've traveled with 4 boxes).
Wish you a happy & safe journey if your going somewhere...

If its old computer no problem as long as you carry this within weight limits.Don't pack them as a computer.Just in plain card boards and don't show them as a computer.
Carry some biils with you which shows you have purchased this long back and is for personal use.

Let me see, from your own words. A hundred years ago we were pretty useless but now we are the strongest economically and militarily and until this current administration. We were either respected or feared around the world. What has yours or any other country done in the last 100 years or so except for stagnate.

no objections on weight--but how far is ur journey--is it an overnite journey?? if then i would b more apprehensive about carrying expensive stuff-if ur a daily commuter thats ok--just b careful--u get some really weird ppl coming in and out of the trains--if ur not in the first class-DO b very very careful--kids under the guise of cleaning up do more than u wud like them to clean or wipe out-good luck--if its a short trip and u dont fall sleep--fine and well--gud luck
