lisinopril and kidney disease?

I have FSG (kidney disease). My Dr put me on lisinopril I am wondering what effect it will have on my Kd does anyone have any info. My dr went through everything to make sure it was safe and says it is the best one for me i also take lebetalol with it and the lisinopril is only 5mg so I was just wondering if anyone had any info on it? Also since I have been on it i feel tired all the time cant seem to get enough sleep is this normal? I have read that fatigue is normal but exactly how much is normal I can sleep 6 hours get up and feel like i need a nap after being up for a couple of hours. Is anyone else having this happen to them?

Lisinopril is called an ACE inhibitor because it blocks an enzyme in the kidneys called the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). It is often used for patients with diabetes and renal failure because it is considered protective to the kidneys. Generally fatigue is not all that common for an ACE inhibitor such as lisinopril. Has he possibly increased your dose of labetalol?? A Beta blocker has more of a chance of making you feel drowsy, dragged down, and feeling like you described.

Lisinopril is in a class of medications called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. ACE stands for ‘angiotensin converting enzyme’. Angiotensin II is a chemical that causes blood vessels to contract and become narrow. The chemical angiotensin II is formed from angiotensin I which is converted by the ACE enzyme. The ACE inhibitor reduces the activity of the ACE enzyme and therefore reduces the presence of angiotensin II in the system so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently. This drug should not be taken when pregnant as it may harm the foetus.

Lebetalol hydrochloride – tandrate – is a betablocker. Beta-blockers block the action of adrenaline – a hormone which causes the heart to beat faster. By blocking adrenaline the heart is prevented from beating too quickly particularly when the sufferer is excercising or under stress. Whilst once first-line treatment for hypertension, their role was downgraded in June 2006 in the United Kingdom to fourth-line as they perform less well than other drugs, particularly in the elderly, and there is increasing evidence that the most frequently used beta-blockers at usual doses carry an unacceptable risk of provoking type 2 diabetes.

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor. ACE or angiotensin converting enzyme is a potent vasoconstrictor thus ACE inhibitor suppress this action. Studies have shown that ACE inhibitors have been clinically shown to be superior to other classes of drugs in the reduction of morbidity and mortality. It slows the progression of renal failure especially for those who have diabetes.

Most ACE inhibitors can cause fatigue and tiredness. This usually happens for a couple of weeks after starting the drug. But if this persists, consult your doctor. Let him know if this affect you greatly and if it interferes with your daily activities.

I've been put on it, I didn't realize my being so tired could be caused by this med. I have to get my liver profile done often because it can mess the liver up. If you find out anything please update.
