It looks like this incident has caused all the war-mongers to crawl out from under their rocks. Many believe now is the time to attack Iran, on the pretense of their so-called illegal seizure (no one knows for a fact where they were, at least not on Yahoo Answers). My question is, you drop the bomb, then what? Iran decides, "Oh, what were we thinking? Let's release these guys right now!". Do you really believe that? I see no emphasis from these people on getting these 15 individuals back to their homes, isn't that the goal?

It's not so black and white on either side of the arguement...yours or theirs.

We cannot simply let this slide by unanswered because A) Britain is our alley, and B) we all know that the Iranian government is much smarter than anyone is willing to credit a desert nation. They're playing the game to see what we will and will not stand for, and so far, just about everyone in the world has stood for all of tthe garbage antics they've pulled.

SOMETHING needs to be done, and while bombing them back to the 8th century probably isn't the best idea, sitting on the bench and hoping someone else fixes this, or that the Iranians will just go away is not going to fix anything.

We HAVE NOT BOMBED IRAN!!!!
No-one in the government is saying we are going to.

On the other hand if we go into our negotiations with Iran with miltary options taken out of the picture it lowers our ability to negotiate.

The fact is when you take away the military option it increases the likelyhood that Iran will do "bad" behavior like take hostages, or build A-bombs.

Because of the political situation in the USA right now the chance of war with Iran in the near future is about 0. For the US to "Bomb" Iran it would require congressional approval. WHAT may I ask you, do you think are the chances of Congress going allong with that now (with the Democrat majority). Because of that the Iranians know that they can get away with anything. Even if the Iranians thought there was a very small chance that thier hostile actions would get them in trouble, they would be less likely to do them.

War is the final option in a diplopmatic dispute, but the threat of war if credible, can open up options. Sometimes only the fear of war can prompt negotiations to reach a "good" solution. If war is taken out of the list of "options" at the start then a country like Iran or North Korea might escallate their actions until war is the only response left, even for a peace loving country.

The 15 sailors is not the "problem" the problem is Iran acting in ways hostile to the US and UK. If we ignore the situation now then eventually Iran will do more and more hostile activities until one of them finally sets us off.

War may not be the answer to this dispute, but world politics is a game of poker and there is no reason to declare that we will not be playing our Aces at the start of the game.

First isn't action by the Iranians an act of war towards the Brits. Lets see, they attacked. They captured British Nationals. They are holding them captive. One can only assume they are trying to pick a fight.

Bombing Iraq's one refinery ought to cause a bunch of chaos and could cause a revolution. Also, shows the west is not a paper tiger. Could Iran be testing the resolve of the west?

The goal is bigger then the 15 sailors.
1) get them out of Iraq.
2) stop the nuclear programs
3) get sailors back

What is your answer? The Jimmy Carter approach, that worked real well didn't it.

You cannot negotiate with terrorists, they play by different world.

What would Iran do if we would have plucked 15 of their sailors out of the sea?
They would come after us hard, at least the Brits are trying diplomacy first.

Yes, the goal is to get the sailors back. If we bomb them, the sailors are dead. But we're gonna bomb them soon anyway, so what's the difference?

I agree with you. We should all sign up for Farsi lessons, and pray five times a day facing Mecca.
