hello all,
i am 24, 5'9 and 185lbs... and i have been looking to tone up my chest, triceps, and back by means of doing pushups. I started on monday, and I have been doing 2 sets of 25 proper pushups per day, and i plan on increasing the total to 4 sets of 25 pushups per day next week. Will this routine lead me to my goal of toned up arms, chest, and back? Any suggestions will be appreciated, and I am open to new ideas and what not. I am not into weights, and I would like to tone up void of lifting. Thanks

That will definitely help. You should try maybe swimming, or playing tennis because those sports are great workout for the arms and shoulders. However, weights are really the best option if you want to build muscle.

Yes, it should. Using your own body weight is a great way to get the benefit of weight training without any special equipment. If you find your arms getting very sore the next day, I'd suggest that you rest your arms and maybe exercise another part of your body the next day. Muscles grow during the resting phase. When you reach a point where what you're doing doesn't feel like much of a workout anymore, then it's time to either increase your sets and/or reps, or switch up your routine some.

Depends on your definition of "toned up". If you want big muscles, no you'll not get it with this. Right now you are "lifting" for endurance because the # of reps are high. You need to lift for power...with heavier weights. You can try to get someone to sit on your back?

Yeah, that will defiantly help. My boyfriend starting doing push-ups like that-only he did several different types like the diamond push-ups and the ones where you put your arms out further from you chest and it had an amazing effect.

I use basicly the same method. Lots of pushups, and if you can, find some weights to curl and press.

push ups are great if you ask me.

I would say that you should mix it up with different types of pushups.
