Ok, I keep getting emails that so and so has added me to their whatever. Well, I didn't really pay it much attention. Then, I was looking at my Y!A profile, and see that I have "Fans". So, what exactly does that do.

Subquestion: If I add someone as a contact, do I become their "fan".

Between this and the Appearing/ Disappearing "Top Contributor" badges, I am lost. How can one seriously answer questions with all this other stuff on your mind.

And, now that I know I have fans, I am nervous about walking around in public. If one of my fans approaches for an autograph, am I obligated to give one. Do my fans have meetings, a website, or anything like that. Are they selling merchandise about me. And, if they are, aren't I entitled to some of the profits made off of official "TattMan" gear. Should I look into trademarking myself?

Confusing.

Not to worry. I'll be your manager and handle all the financial stuff. If after awhile I disappear.. don't worry.. I will be back ;)

lol yes, when you add someone as a contact, you become their "fan".. just more of the y/a silliness (like top contributor badges that honestly mean nothing)
I'll look into the trademark issue. We'll sue the pants off them if they've stolen our stuff.

Don't worry, it's something you'll get used to. I was nervous about having fans, too, but then I learned to enjoy it. Now I'm producing hundreds of Parrot™ baseball caps, Parrot™ water bottles, Parrot™ bumper stickers and Parrot™ coffee mugs every month.

:-P

No, seriously, I don't know how they determine the "top contributors", but the "fan" system is just a way for people to connect with other answerers that they like. That's probably all there is to it. Rather pointless but interesting nonetheless.

You can turn that option off in your profile settings.

The two on my list are people that I actually know and talk to on and off the internet. They are the only reason I have that option enabled.

When people that I don't know (or care to know, quite frankly) add me, it's just creepy.

Y!A is turning into MySpace.

How did Sanjaya get "Fans"? It's all in the hands of someone's version of god.
