If you were told to renounce your faith/religion or die, what would you do? (For those of no particular religious persuasion, if you were told to convert to a particular religion or die, what would you do?)

Adorable- clarification: well, I believe that my faith leads to spiritual life, so renouncing it would be spiritual death. So- if you had to renounce your faith or lose your physical, bodily life, which would you choose?

It would be a very hard decision for most..including me. Most people say without a doubt that they would die...but if they were put into the reality, would they really do it? I would like to say I would die. As the Bible says: "Whosoever shall save his life for his sake, shall lose it, but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it!" Besides, if you are a born-again believer, you would be in heaven the minute you die.

The thing to remember is this: anything done under duress is not a free choice, therefore invalid. A conversion made under duress is not a conversion; it is simply an act done to preserve life.
People have been declared saints for failing to renounce Christianity on pain of death, and that's truly a high ideal, but clinging to life with tenacity and giving into force to say some words does not mean that a person has truly renounced one's faith.

This is easy for me because my faith also teaches me that the greatest gift of all is the gift of life, and that there is nothing worth dying for. Therefore, if renouncing my faith (which is a mere public declaration, not a thing of the heart like faith) gives me an opportunity to continue with life, then so be it. Later, we live to fight again.

Sadly, I see some names/ Avitars commenting on here, who seem to change their faith and beliefs according to each question and subject....very sad. If you are going to represent Christ...represent..and BE NOT ASHAMED!!

As a Christian of 25 years...there is no hesitation...death. I would never renounce Christ. I know what he has done for me!

I would die before I would renounce Jesus! I truly mean that! There is no doubt in my mind that I would choose death!

Death. Even Suffering.

Death is not the honor that it is given. One can be with the Spirit in heart. There is a truth in all religions so to be forced to convert to one, one only learns the truth of that religion :-)

As a Christian of 44 years I would die first.

Physical death is really not that big of a deal for me. Eternal life with Christ Jesus is my future, getting there a wee bit early is just alright with me! No way would I deny my Lord that died for me.

Death.

As it is written: "For what profit will a person have if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what can a person give in exchange for his life?" (Matthew 16:26)
