a sales manager oversees the salesmen, all aspects of their job, sales, pricing, negotiating. The sales manager is the guy who sits at the podium giving out numbers. In many cases orders inventory, oversees BDC.
Unless of course you visit bmw, or mercedes. The sales manager only provides assistance to the salesman if needed, and handles problems. The salesmen at highline dealerships typically can negotiate and work numbers without the use of a sales manager.
Then there is the GSM (general sales manager), he runs the entire sales department of the dealership.
