Its a matter of how strictly you follow your religion. The veil that covers your face is not required in islam. And you do not have to wear the full long dress or wear black. However headcovering and modest clothing is important. A lot of muslims do not wear headcovering but other than that are good muslims. Muslims wearing hijab are not better than muslims that dont. Its important but it is their choice and God can judge better what is in their hearts.

well, the face veil isn't necessary, although a lot of women are seen wearing them..these are mostly from the subcontinent and i've mostly seen women only over 35 years of age wearing it..the face veil is a matter of choice..the head-scarf is compulsory for muslim women and many of the women i know who don't wear it, do so mainly because they just don't want to..i've heard of some who stopped wearing it over fear of beiong discroiminated against and stuff.i've been wearing the hijab since i was around 11,and even though at first i was quite reluctant, now i've come to realise the importance and wisdom behind it and can't imagine leaving the house without having it on...
About the PS. i really don't think that was needed[not that i was offended by it ; ) ] because like you said it was just a curious question and not insulting..

hi!
well i'm muslim and i read the Quran and when i do read or pray i cover my hair however i do not opt for the full veil. i just feel that if you are a bad muslim and wear the veil it isnt doing any justice however you could be a good muslim and wear no veil or just to cover your hair. i hope this makes sense but thats just the ultamanium. i still feel that if other women wear the burka they should still carry on with it as it is up to them and i feel happy for them to wear it but i feel that wether you just cover your hair, face or no cover even, as long as you're a good muslim thats all that matters.
hope you get what i mean and i dont mean no offence to all muslim sisters
peace xx

I am Muslim (Converted) and I don't wear the Hijaab, because it doesn't say anything like that in the Quran..It DOES say to cover yourself respectfully and most importantly to cover the breasts but not to cover the face or hair....
Some Muslim women claim it is in there but I have yet to find it...I know it is in one of the Hadiths but that isn't the word of God that is the word of Man..
Even prophet Mohammed never forced his women followers to wear the Hijaab or veil, it was up to them...The Women choose to cover...
I know many Muslim women that don't cover now but when they get married they do cover out of respect for their husbands..

isn't it sad when a question is very apparent at general inquiery, still has to add the " please don't get offended?"
I wouldn't get offended, I asked this too, and a muslim woman at my old school told me it is about preferance, like in america some women will wear pant suites, and the more conservatives will wear dresses and skirts.
The more traditional muslim woman will wear the veil, but it's not forced.

There are many Muslims that are not that strict with those things. I live in a Muslim country and I rarely see any one of them where a long black dress with a veil. They are just not as strict as other Muslims.

i personally think wearing the veil is not strict.i know some women who wear the veil and they have boyfriends and everything. so i think the veil does not mean a woman is strict.
i think its a matter of choice, women choose to follow the command of Allah or not

Think about it as an orthodox way of viewing the faith and an unorthodox way of viewing it. The same thing goes on in Christianity.

Well the actual reason is how some scholars interpret the verse which talks abt covering in the quran. many say tht u mus cover except hands n face whereas others gve the argument tht face is one of the main things which attracts men. i cover my face coz i feel it increases my faith plus u shud check out in da middle east many arab women put on make up n stuff n non arabs copy them thinkin its fine sinz dey do it.
it depends on u as an individual which argument u feel is rite. i feel yes indeed the face does attract men so i cover n im very comfortable wid it.
Howeva wateva da scholars say, they bring out opinions 4m da quran not 4m themselves so its nuthin like whteva they wish they say. so even if sum scholars say its fine not 2 wear da veil den dey too maybe havin sum strong argument. as i said it all depends on da individual.
