Ford performace has a web site as well as a technical hot line. I used to pro rally a 1982 escort with a 1.6 and if i recall it was near 200 hp but Ford racing built the motor.

To be honest, you cant have read much about them. You wont get a normally aspirated CVH anywhere even near 200bhp without a huge cash injection. The problem lies with its hemispherical chamber, it just wont allow much in the way of porting. You've only got 8 valves which is another massively limiting factor, since to get high bhp out of NA engines you need to rev the clappers out of them, and with an 8 valve head youre always playing a large second fiddle to a 16 valve unit.
To give you an idea, there is one way and one way only to get 200bhp out of a normally aspirated cvh.
Zetec head, ported and polished with big valves.
Forged crankshaft
Forged Pistons
Forged con rods
40DCOE side draughts or Throttle bodies (if using throttle bodies you then need management system)
high pressure fuel pump
revised duration camshaft
twin or even triple plate clutch.
for that lot, your looking at 5 grand for carbs, or 7 grand if you go thotttle bodies. Do you really want that much cash in the nose of an escort?
The easiest way to get more power would be to drop in a CVH turbo taken from the Fiesta or Escort RS turbo. 160bhp is pretty easy, but 200bhp still needs major cash if you dont want it to blow up every other week.

ha, NA (naturally aspirated) tuning it would be impossible to reach 200 bhp, if its an efi lump you could turbo it and fit a 165 chip and do some headwork, 200bhp is really pushing a cvh but it is possible.
if you want a cheap option just swap the engine for a fiesta rs turbo jobbie. (130bhp)
NA tuned you can push it to 130 bhp, with a kent CVH 32 cam, K&n filter, Stainless exhaust, superchip and some light headwork. the EFi lump is already pushed near its limits before leaving the factory.
look at burtonpower.com for more in depth info

if its injection you need to change the standard injectors and engine management system, or with carbs swap them for 45 side draughts. you can get a 24 valve head which fits the cvh engine you are talking serious money try getting a montego or maestro 20.L turbo engine and doing a transplant or one from a rover 620 turbo it is do able and they rolled out the factory with 200 horses it will be more responsive more torque and a damn sight cheaper

Tuning is one thing, just to get a few extra horse power is fairly simple but to get that engine to produce 200 horses will take a lot of work and expense.
It'll need a different head with a new cam profile and better rated valves for a start.

Fit a turbo, a nitrous oxide kit and an armoured bulkhead for when the motor blows so you can keep your manhood!
If you want more power, fit more cubes.
