I read a thing in my vets office that said to introduce any new cats..put the new cat in the bathroom (food water litter box etc of course) and let them get to know each other through the door for a few days. when the hissing stops and they seem to be okay with each other..slowly let the new cat out and keep an eye on them while they meet face to face.

Cats hate change. It is a fact. Your older cat is probably going to be very upset for awhile they he has to share his new space with a rambunctious kitten. I would seperate them at first so the older cat cannot hurt the kitten. Or if you dont want to seperate only let them be around eachother when they are supervised. The best thing to do is keep them seperated in different rooms for about 2 weeks.. each cat will have time in the main living space..but while they are there the other will be locked in another room. Then switch... they will be able to smell eachother ..and get used to the idea of having another cat around ( this is mostly for the older cat.. the kitten is alot more flexible..he/she doesnt have a territory..but the older cat does) Soon you will be able to let them be together for supervised visits.. and then when you trust the older cat has finally gotten over his issue you can leave them alone.
There is a chance the older cat might never get used to the idea and accept the younger.. you might have to keep this arrangement permentantly. If both animals get time with you and time to explore they would still have the lifestyle they need..its just keeping them apart for their protection. Every cat is different.. who knows after a few days of this arrangement both cats might be perfectly fine.. you never know!

The older cat has to show that the place is his territory. He feels threatened by the new cat and he has to explain his house rules to the newcomer.
Don't worry too much. At first there will be a lot of hissing from the eight year old but that will go away after a while. Before long they will be cleaning each other and the older cat will come to accept the newbee.

That's easy both cats may not like each other probably because they never saw each other before all you need to do is stay next to them and let them play but if they start to get aggressive put them in there cage soon enough it will work and they will get along fine
