I am just curious. Would you prefer if there was no religion at all, or if only certain religions discontinued? Many churches, even if you do not have the same beliefs do a lot of good for mankind. Do you think the same people doing good would do so if there was no religion? Just curious on your thoughts!

All religions are equally valid, so I don't really dislike any the most. People need religion. People like to have faith in things and have a God to watch over and care for them. Yes, it's a shame that those religious people who help charities would probably not do it any more - the benefits would no longer include heaven, so the benefits would not outweigh the costs. That is human nature.

I probably dislike Islam the most, for reasons that are fairly obvious for anybody keeping up with current events. A group of people who get into a murderous rage over a cartoon is just not compatible with humanity, and if they get a hold of nuclear weapons it could spell disaster for us all... When you have people who believe that killing millions of people and dying in defense in Islam will get you and your friends/family into paradise and these people are in control of the switch for nuclear weapons - the world will end. For someone with their beliefs, nuking the world wouldn't just be virtuous, it would be rational.

Christianity takes a decided second place. Sure they breed misinformation, lies, distortions, and are a substantially more subtle purveyor of theocracy (which they want America to become), but they don't become insane over cartoons, reporter commentaries, and they don't want to slaughter people in defense of their faith.

If people are only doing good for religion, then those are certainly shallow and selfish people indeed! Those who do good because they believe they'll be later rewarded are surely less moral than one who does good because simply because he/she can.

If I could have certain religions discontinued, it would be the three main ones (judaism, christianity, islam). I'd like some of the eastern religions to perpetuate though, like buddhism, jainism, taoism, etc.

I'm not sure if religion should be removed, totally. I could certainly do without the more blatant made up ones like Islam, Mormonism and Scientology.

I recognize that many people find help in religion and that it fulfills certain needs for them, but I don't want religions legislating morality or interfering with science or education.

Jehovah's Witnesses. I just got through getting rid of one and it took forever. I answered the door with my cordless phone in my hand (I was actually on it) and I said "Can you excuse me, I'm on the phone". He told me that he had a "message from Jehovah" that was "more important" than the person I was talking to on the phone (my wife). I finally got rid of him when I said into the phone "Honey, are we still going to give blood this weekend???"

I have nothing against religion, whatever gets you through the day or life and makes you feel better about yourself. I don't really care of you worship God, Budda, Allah, or a head of lettuce named Ralph. Just don't push it on me. Also, when you come to my home be respectful. First of all, it is my home so if I don't want to hear what you have to say, accept that. Maybe I just don't want to be bothered. Maybe I am on the phone, have a casserole in the oven, or am sleeping (I work nights).
I am not a part of any church but I am active in my community. I tutor homeless children. If the tips were good on my job, I might buy a homeless man or woman a sandwich. I do these things because I genuinely care about other people not because there is supposedly a reward for it.

All of the good things that come from religion can come just as easily from secularism. Most of the bad things that come from religion can only happen by religious means. Martyrdom, persecution and torture on religious grounds, suicide bombings, holy wars... Reasonable people don't do these things, but they do give to charity, help the homeless, volunteer, start programs to keep people off of drugs and such...

People doing good things has nothing to do with religion. Its a personal choice to do good things. I do good things. A person doesn't just do good because someone else told them to, it's called empathy, thinking outside of oneself, for the greater good of mankind, there are tons of reasons to do good acts. I think there are certain dangerous religions sometimes refered to as cults, and there are ridiculous religinos, but it shouldn't be up to me whether you follow them or not, however when those groups try to impose laws that suit them and not me then we have a problem, and it is a problem.

I don't dislike religions... I don't dislike people, but I do try to put a stop to people who use religion as a weapon to cause harm and suffering... I know I rave about "harm and suffering" a lot but I'm serious.

I don't dislike any religion. People should be able to practice any religion they like. I think good people do good things and religion has not much to do with it.
