I don't think anyone can be completely silent during birth (especially with no drugs), but I think the general idea is nice, a quiet, gently lit (not typical flourescent lit) room, with no machines beeping and no doctors/nurses/partner shouting "come on, come on , PUSH, you can do it, almost there". I think if she wants that, maybe she should concentrate on how to make the room and everyone in the room quiet, not on her keeping quiet... unless of course if she's a scientology follower, she should do what she believes in. And, like you said, not for you to say.

What Katie did was for religious reasons and therefore would be silly of your mom's friend to do it if she's not the same religion. I went through labor with no drugs and I think I could have been quiet about it if I'd tried...so yes I think it's possible.

Weird! I couldn't have gone through 8 hrs of labor silently. I barely managed not to swear...although I slipped once and said the s*** word very quietly. I think its strange to be that much of a "fan" but its her labor, so WHATEVER!

What did women do before medication ? In Europe they had their babies and were back working in the fields right after..
Can she keep silent . well that's alot of question .. sorry no offence meant but when did you know a woman to be silent ?
It will probably be one of the hardest things she will ever have to endure but yes if she is that set on it she will do it ..but just in case have an epidural ready ...

Your friend needs to do her research....The silent birth is for everyone else in the room....the mother can make noise.

She might be able to have it all silent but I wouldn't have her put that much pressure on herself. If she ends up wanting to scream She needs to scream:)
