I am on a budget, but that doesn't mean I cannot theme for reasonable price....

I want to do a theme that is unique and romantic. I thought of doing like Old Hollywood.... Incorporating Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra. But I'm having it on at a Golf course in the Desert.

Any other theme ideas, websites or what I could incorporate into it???

Do you REALLY need a theme? I mean, isn't just getting married enough of a theme? Or just using color to tie everything together? Don't get me wrong, I like to see "motifs" used at weddings (monograms, a special something that is meaningful to the couple etc) but sometimes people go, like, WAY over the top with themes, and it ends up looking a little cartoonish. For example, I attended a wedding where the bride had to have a Cinderella theme...it was soooo overdone, like Cinderella plastered over every square inch of the reception hall. Cinderella invitations, glass slipper favor, tiaras on the entire wedding party, pumpkin coaches, etc etc etc, the list went on and on (not saying YOU would do this, just using it as an example). At midnight, most of the guests wanted to jump into their "coaches" and get the h*ll outta there. What I'm saying is, if you want a theme...pick something that you don't need to beat your guests over the head with. If you like butterflies or hearts or whatever, put it on your printed materials like the place card or menu, maybe a touch here and there. Having a wedding at a golf course in the dessert sounds spectacular enough, why not borrow from your setting and run with it, rather than have it turn towards a birthday theme-party.

What's old is new again? When it comes to wedding themes, nothing is more romantic than a traditional, old-time vintage wedding. These weddings bring back the past in a new way that is lovely and beautiful, evoking feelings of romance in just about everyone.

If you long to have a vintage-style theme, you will be able to plan a wedding day that is unique and quite charming. Why? Because they're becoming popular again, with new ways to carry out your theme in your attire, ceremony, and reception.

Victorian Age
A good place to start is with your wedding attire. Perhaps you wish to wear your grandmother's wedding gown, or a replica of a dress from times gone by. You could have a custom dress made to represent the Victorian age. Choose a bustle and wear a large, brimmed hat instead of a veil. The men in the wedding party could be attired in long coats and top hats.

For an authentic wedding from the Victorian age, you could hire a stringed quartet and hold the wedding in the afternoon. Choose a garden setting with beautiful flowers and serve an afternoon tea for the reception.

Jazz Era Ideas
Another idea for a vintage theme is the jazz era. You can easily incorporate this into a stunning wedding extravagance. Think of using art deco in your decorations. You can order invitations, the cake, and party favors that will highlight your style and bring your era together. Music sets the mood for some good, old-time fun.

For the jazz era, your wedding dress should be a shorter length with a longer veil. There's no need for a defined waistline, you can feature several light, lacy layers. The gentlemen can wear vintage wedding clothes complete with top hats and tails. Entertain guests at your wedding reception by serving cocktails and having a swing jazz band.

For more ideas, buy some books and movies for different eras that will provide you with information about attire, decorating, music, food and the general atmosphere of the era. A vintage wedding theme is perfect for the couple who wants to have the timeless experience of their lives.

You can have a Hawaiian themed wedding or how about an Egyptian themed/Sinbad/Lawrence of Arabia themed wedding to go with the desert? You can decorate with laterns and perhaps have a few belly dancers.

I love the idea of the old Hollywood theme.

I like the idea of Old Holywood, I did a Vintage themed wedding and that was very affordable. I used music from the rat pack and styled the ceremony and reception after typical ones of that time period (this made it cheaper by the way) I used old traditions like poems and things and we even went bowling after the wedding (wedding party and close friends.) My theme wasn't overpowering but eveyone felt it had a classic vintage feel. Great book for planning a vintage wedding: My Vintage Wedding.

Go Hawaiian or tropical! Tiki torches, leis, roasted pig, dried tropical fruits in little cups with little umbrellas... Or maybe a mid evil theme, knights and maidens...
