Ratio is always 1 to 2. One cup rice to 2 cups water. I usually add water and rice to a pot, bring it to a boil with a little salt. You can always fudge the water by upto a 1/4 cup if you like it well done.Turn off the heat cover and let it cook itself for about 20 minutes or so.

2 parts water to 1 part rice is pretty accurate (you should be able to tell based on the package). I like to use 1 part water, 1 part broth, 1 part rice myself. Gives it a little extra flavor boost.
Boil your liquid, add the rice all at once, reduce to simmer and cover. For most rice, you're looking at letting it simmer for about 20 minutes. DO NOT LIFT THE COVER until the 20 minutes are up. It will affect the rice. When the time is up, lift the lid and fluff with a fork. Resist stirring it. Add whatever flavors like a tablespoon of butter or slivered almonds that suit your fancy and serve warm.
My mom would add 1/8 cup of brown sugar and a can of crushed pineapple to it to serve alongside ham. Yummy.

2 parts water to 1 part rice--- except you want to skimp on teh water a bit, so not quite twice. For 1 cup of raw rice, I'd use about 1 7/8 cups water. This will yield 2 cups rice.
This ratio does NOT work for brown ror converted rice; it takes longer to cook and needs more water. Just use a good ol' logn grain like Mahatma or something.
Bring measured water to a boil in a heavy pan w/ tight-fitting lid, over high heat.
Sir in rice.
Wait and watch. When water returns to a boil, stir again.
Replace lid, set heat to lowest setting, and set your timer for 20 min.
When timer goes off, you will have perfect rice!

If cooking 1 cup of rice, use about 2 1/4 cups of water. Let water come to a fast boil. Pour in your rice. Stir. Cover. Reduce heat to low and cook until there is still a tad of water in the bottom (just enough to cover the bottom). Remove from heat still covered. Let sit about 5 minutes. Salt and butter to taste.

This may sound kinda funny...i call it the finger method. Dip your middle finger into the rice, measure how high it goes up to and fill the water to that same level. For example, if the rice is up to the first line on your middle finger, measure the water to that same line. Depending on different rice brands, 1 cup is to 1 cup of water might work too!!

Use a rice cooker & follow the directions on the back of the box of rice or what it calls for inside the rice cooker booklet. A rice cooker makes perfect rice every time.
