You need to repent, believe and receive (i.e. Jesus), to be a Christian.
After this you live by faith.

The final commandment that Jesus gave his disciples was to "Go into the world and make disciples in all nations". So it appears that proselytizing is a requirement for Christians.
To hear they way people tell on this site, every Christian in the world must be out there ramming their religion down people's throats.
Most Christians do share their faith, but usually in quiet ways by trying to live it in front of others as an example, and look for opportunies when they are open and willing to listen before sharing with them.

After a person becomes a Christian (by placing their trust in Jesus), they are to become "conformed to the image of the Son." This means learning to be like Jesus.
Sadly, this is where most fail because they do not read the Bible and know what Jesus is like or what He wants us to do.
We are told to:
1. Love
2. Be baptized
3. Proclaim His death by taking part in Communion
4. Make disciples (that would be by sharing our faith with others)
5. Worship God
That's just a few.

Christians need to do more than just believe. Demons in hell believe. Christians are to become disciples of Jesus. In that, absolutely we are to read the Bible. We are to love the Lord our God with all our hearts, minds, and souls. And we are to spread the gospel to all nations. It is called the Great Commission.

Wouldn't they need to live their lives like Christ did? Isn't that the essence of Christianity? Who cares what they believe or what proselytizing they do if they are not living according to Christ's principles? That would mean loving everyone else, treating all people as your brothers and sisters, having compassion and careing for others, wouldn't it? If they are not doing that, how could they call themselves "christian"?

Yes, it is a commanded it is "the great commission"
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
we Do read the bible that is why we "Proselytising." The bible says how to live and what to do, Christians don't spread the gospel for the heck of it. We do it because God both told us to and convicts us to. It's not easy believe me to preach to ppl who shoot you down, call you names and think your so pushy and a hypocrit sometimes we don't want to, but we do it anyway so that God's message can be heard. And so ppl can be saved.

A Christian is someone who follows the teaching of Christ, and lives their lives in accordance. Jesus taught the word of the bible, so should Christians. Jesus stayed away from false/ pegan beliefs, so should Christians. Live a clean life, read and apply the bible, pray and trust in the lord, repent for sins in the name of Jesus, and keep an open mind to his guidence and teachings.

All of that and a bit more... All who come to God in The Way He prescribes will receive His free gift of Salvation. Those become part of The Body of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Those are the ones of The True Christian Faith. Only those of The Church will enter Heaven..... it is the coming to God in The Way He prescribes that is the Hard part for most... and why most never make it.
I you have questions concerning the basics of The Faith feel free to email me. One honest question will receive one honest answer to the best of my ability.

Believe in, accept and invite Christ Jesus, Son of the Living God to be our Saviour and Lord of our lives.
Fruit of that relationship involves sharing the wonderful good news that He died for our sins and to read His word, the BIble.

Love God...follow His word, the Bible.
Treat others like we'd like to be treated.
Not just read, but study the Bible-be able to 'rightly divide' it. (Know what it actually teaches-not pick & choose Scriptures on their own, but the true meaning based on the whole Bible.)
Share the "good news" of Jesus Christ.
(There are many things we need to do, but I think all of them fall under one of the things listed here.)
