Red is the most yang color. So it has the most energy. It is the color of healthy blood. Colors have varying wavelengths and when the eye sees reds, oranges, yellows it perceives long wavelengths. The long wavelengths stimulate and energize us so passion is surely another association. In Feng Shui red is associated with Fire and with shapes and patterns like triangles, zigzags, star shapes. Red is associated with romance, wealth, and happinss which are three good reasons why the Chinese choose red for doors and entrance arches. They also choose red for wedding dresses because it is considered good luck, a strong color that can keep away evil spirits. However, since red is fire, if fire gets out of control it will burn, so use Red wisely.

Actually, red is supposed to evoke conversation. That is the reason that the color red is so popular for dining rooms. Pink is a calming color.
