I recently received al letter from my gas company and it basically stated they were going to be outsourcing all of there calls except for emergencies. This gas companies call center is 10 minutes from my house and I feel terrible for all the the employees who will be let go.

what most people dont understand is that not only are jobs being outsourced but insourced as well. we have gained 15 million new jobs and have only lost 4 million. the only reason people do not realize this is that the jobs we are gaining are higher-skilled higher-paid jobs that only educated people get. therefore if you are going to whine and complain about something do some research on the subject and find out whats really going on instead of guessing.

Outsourcing will be the death of us. I know many people, good and hard working people that will be losing their jobs because of a future outsourcing. Their jobs will be moving from Houston to Manilla. Why the move? The answer is simple....Money. For the amount of money it costs to employ one American a company can employ nearly 3 to 4 people in other countries. For the same sized work force as a business would have here in the US it costs roughly 1/4 to 1/6 in Manilla.

It sucks for us because our jobs are going away. Careers are vanishing and the ability to have a stable household is vanishing.

But do we do anything about it? No. We tell ourselves there is nothing we can do.....but there is. We can protest it. These are our jobs. Keep them here.

If anyone has every performed a job in a call center environment and heard these next few words, "Thank god you speak english," or "I can actually understand you and you can understand me!" then you know what I am talking about.

Also, look at the customer support reviews for several companies like Compaq, SBC, HP, etc....their satisfactory rates has dropped drastically since they have sourced a major portion of their first tier technical support. But it's not about the customer's happiness after the product is bought that drives the business.......it's the money the business saves by hiring the unskilled and not caring about the simple things like language barriers.

Sure, it bothers me when we outsource jobs to India, but there is nothing illegal about it and it is what you should expect in a global economy. One fact many people overlook is that, in the outsourcing game, more countries outsource to us than we to them. I don't have the statistics in front of me. But I believe if we were to prohibit it the sresult would be that other countries would reciprocate. Not only that, some businesses would pack up and leave our shores. If our government ever tries to "protect" American jobs by banning outsourcing I think the net result will be the loss of even more American jobs.

I personally believe that outsourcing to India should be stopped. The fact that they are running business through people who live in an entirely different country is ridiculous. I understand that it is much cheaper to employ those from India but honestly there are people who live in the US who would love to work for these companies. It causes a severe hassle to those customers who end up speaking with those from India, especially when the person you are speaking to can barely understand english let alone speak it. Not to sound idiotic when I make these comments but I absolutely hate speaking with someone that I cannot understand and that is in any language or accent. Hell I hate talking to americans who speak with broken english just because they care not to brush up on their grammar. But with all that said, it makes sense economically to employ people from India but there are people in America who need those jobs, and people who don't want to deal with hassle of repeating themselves to someone who barely speaks their languag.

Its all about a One World plan for the elite. It has nothing to do with fairness. Leaders know this hurts our economy, yet they negotiate more free trade agreements. Low consumer costs does not always equate with job security or a good economy. Such things are short sighted when it comes to long term growth.

our world is literally shrinking, outsourcing is one of those. But considering the number of indian people that is being helped by this, i think it serves its purpose better in giving it to the poorer country rather than just considering selfishly in the people of the US.
I do understand your feelings though, you have a big heart but make it bigger by blessing other poorer countries.

And it will continue until the bean counters (accountants for liberals) start taking the employees into consideration instead of always putting the stock holders first.
