In my opinion, Jim Thorpe. He may have
been the best football player of his time. He also was an
Olympic champion in the decathlon which requires a number of individual skills. And he also played major league baseball for several years.

I'd say Jackie Robinson
Not only was he a pioneer in that he was the first African American to play in the Majors, but he was also very succesful at it making the all star time six consecutive years, and being voted league MVP
